2011 wishlist

I was planning to do a 2010 retrospective of significant/favourite purchases but got too scared once I started compiling the list (also I'm still in NZ and all my stuff is at home). In the meantime though as part of my attempt to be more curatorial in my approach to shopping, here's my current wishlist for 2011:

Repossi ring
I first saw this on Garance Dore and just fell in love. I absolutely love Gaia Repossi's style and her designs are absolutely stunning, but at more than EUR5k, it might just be a pipe dream for now.

LV SC Bag

After all the vacillation last year, I think I might just bite the bullet and get the bag this year. As with Chanel, the price just keeps going up so it's only going to get worse. It helped also to finally try on the smaller size. Turns out (IMO) that the bag doesn't work quite as well in the petit version.
Celine Bag?
still undecided about whether to take the plunge and add a Celine to my bag collection. E's luggage tote is just gorgeous, but I'm not sure I can pull it off (and also, the fact that it looks that good on her doesn't bode well for it looking good on me as per usual :p). Then there's the classic box shoulder bag which I love, but the price just seems so excessive for what it is! Of course you never know, 2011 could have a whole bevy of new lustworthy designs!

And last (for now) but not least: YSL Tribtoo pumps

I'm currently going through a phase of wanting to get classics that I'm going to love forever and these definitely fall into that category (though I will admit to being slightly tempted by the horsehair version!) Now just wondering how I can get my hands on them for cheaper.... might have to wrangle a trip to Paris! :)

note to self

Must. Try. To. Hold. Out. For. SC Bag!

I've been really bad with miscellaneous shopping recently and totally fallen off the wagon when it comes to saving up for an SC bag. So of course, LV then launches a bunch of new colours and a smaller size! le sigh. Still... I'm not that keen on the new colours and not totally convinced I want a smaller size, so guess the quest is still on. In the meantime, I've dregged up every photo I could find that had inspired me in the first place to get this bag. Now just need to decide - Cobalt or Jasper? Or leave it to fate (and stock levels) to decide?

note: um... you might notice that these pics are pretty garance heavy notwithstanding the dozens of celebs pictured with the bag. What can I say? I love her... and somehow the pics with her carrying it just seem more like real life y'know? :)

cease and desist

I'm posting this in the hope that it'll keep me honest (not that that's all that likely but you never know...). So having obsessed over the LV Sofia Coppola bag for ages, I've pretty much decided to get it this year (probably if I can convince someone to help me pick it up in Paris with the tax back!). Of course that comes with a big if - if I can stop spending so much in the mean time!

I thought I would try bolstering my resolve doing a review of the pics that got me obsessed in the first place... strangely, I didn't really get that keen on this bag till quite a while after it'd been launched. I suspect it had something to do with needing to actually see it on someone.... anyway, this pic of garance dore carrying it just blew me away:

and then again when jak and jil snapped her with the bag

there've been a bunch of other photos since then but my lack of bookmarking organisation has meant that I have no idea where I saw them now. But here's a couple of pics from around the time of the launch.... not sure how sofia is managing to carry it like that cos the strap seems too short, but perhaps that was just the prototype. If I could carry it messenger style like that, it would literally be the perfect bag.

strangely, it's kinda nice to be really obsessed about something again. Maybe what the recent NYT article is true - that you're happier when you buy something you've been wanting for a really long time.
